Introduction

In November 2007, the Southern Ethiopia/Gwent Health Link (the Link) commenced a project that aims to work with and support each of three rural Health Centres in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region (SNNPR) of Ethiopia to develop into an ‘Exemplar Health Centre/Centre of Excellence’. This report describes evaluation work undertaken thus far to determine to what extent the aims and objectives of the project are being met. Work on monitoring and evaluation is ongoing so the report details evidence of progress (or not) with the three Health Centres and describes simple baselines that have been established for future measurement.

The report also outlines other activities undertaken by the Link which may be outside and/or broader than the direct work with the three Health Centres. Some evaluation of this work has also taken place. All evaluation outcomes will inform forward planning and priority setting for the Gwent team in partnership with the Ethiopian team.
